First day in L.A.

Celeb sighting.

Our first day in L.A. we picked up our rental car and set off to explore the city. We stayed in Burbank so we quickly checked out the studios in the area. It would have been cool to take a studio tour, but we were on a budget. Maybe next time.

Instead we headed down near Hollywood and Vine to check out the Walk of Fame.

Clockwise: Amy Grant, Tony Danza, John Fogerty, Tim Allen.

Here’s where Mike insisted we investigate a crowd of people who had gathered a bit further down the block. Honestly, I wasn’t that keen. We walked that way anyways and Mike asked around to see what was happening. Turns out everyone was waiting for Neil Diamond. He was about to get his star! But not only that… Randy Newman was there too! Mike was right on this one!

Neil and Randy.

After our celebrity sighting we went over to the Chinese Theater to take a look at famous hand and foot prints. It’s fun to do that silly celebrity stuff!

Clockwise: John Wayne (we have the same size feet!), Will Smith, Humphrey Bogart, Tom Hanks

The afternoon was pretty warm so we headed into In N Out Burger for some lunch and to cool off. It was Mike’s first taste. He approved!

Later in the day we checked out a very famous house. Do you know it?

It’s the Brady Bunch house!

Then we needed some tacos… so we took care of that.

That evening we saw a comedy show at the Upright Citizens Brigade, which I highly recommend.

Instant L.A.

Los Angeles, California.

While we were in L.A. for our friends’ wedding, we did a little sight-seeing as well.  It turned out to be a pretty special part of our summer travels. Good friends + Mexican food, all you really need.

Hollywood.
On the Santa Monica pier.
 Classic palm trees.
Olivia Newton John’s star on the Walk of Fame.
A little donut stop.
The greatest double exposure of all time. Molly, Shera, and Mike crossed with a giant Coke bottle.
Taco run. (One of many).

Being home.

And a winner!

Darby made me this awesome cake.

So far, being home has meant time with family and friends, a surprise picnic, and a gorgeous hike in the gorge. Plus, there’s been lots of sleeping, reading, and eating of good food. I’d say it’s been a pretty fantastic first week back.

And now announcing the winner of the lovely Laotian alphabet toteEm! I’ll be sending you an email so we can figure out the best way to get it to you. I’ve never mailed anything to Saudi before…

Thanks to everyone who entered! It was comforting to read your goodbye stories.

Wow. Four weeks go by fast when you’re with the ones you love, doing things you love, in a place you love. Thanks for a great summer, PNW!

And I appreciate the cloudy weather you pulled out today.

Good bye!
