Intermission

The summer of Canada.

I’m back from the stunning Banff National Park. I mean, if the view from the highway was this good, just imagine what you can see after hiking in for a few miles. Very impressive scenery.

I have about two weeks until I head back to Canada, but this time I’ll be visiting Ontario and Quebec with this babe I know. I would love to get suggestions from any Canadian readers (or Canada aficionados) for cool places to see or good veggie places to eat in Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, or Quebec City.

Also, while I was gone, Em from Ice Cream Cone Life posted a little interview with me. Check it out here.

  1. Montreal – see the Biodome, Old Montreal, Mt Royal on a Sunday, Jean Talon market in Little Italy.
Quebec City – see the old city.
Ottawa – see the market, the museum of civilization.
Toronto – see Queen West, the island, the beaches, go up the CN tower.

Food – I can’t help you. I can’t think of any vegetarian restaurants!

    Have a great trip! :)

  3. Hi! I’ve been following your blog for a few months now. It’s great!! I live in Ottawa. If you want a nice relaxing afternoon sipping cold ones on the patio go to the Mill Street Brewery. http://www.millstreetbrewpub.ca/
How long are you in Ottawa for? If you want something fun and cheap to do one evening sign up for the haunted Walk of Ottawa.

Also, every night until September there is the Mosiac show. it’s a free show on Parliament hill. It’s actually a light show about Canada’s history that is actually on the Parliament buildings.

    enjoy!

  4. Alas, it sounds like you will be in Toronto after Tony and I have left for the States, otherwise I would have loved to meet up with you to show you a bit of T.O. while you were here! Granted, I haven’t lived here fulltime for 7 years, but I still manage to find my way around.

Agree with seeing Queen West, though I would also recommend wandering around Chinatown (which is north of Queen West on Spadina Ave), as it’s a really good one. There won’t necessarily be tons of veg food there, but it’s still really colorful and there are some Chinese bakeries where you can get sweets for cheap and not fear they’ll have meat in them. Also, I’ve been told by many people that Toronto has some of the best Indian food, so you might want to plan on an Indian meal (which will have tons of veg options) while you’re in town. You could also pop by the St Lawrence Market while you’re downtown, and the Bata Shoe Museum is pretty neat (and is near the University of Toronto campus) and has the added bonus of being absolutely free.

That would have been fun! Thanks for the suggestions. I’m really looking forward to exploring Ontario.

Riley, your comment seems to have disappeared? But thanks for the suggestions of things to do in Ottawa!

  7. do you need them again?

For Ottawa: while you check out the Byward Market (definitely a staple of Ottawa), go to Ahora’s on Dalhousie for delicious, fresh, inexpensive Mexican food–much of which can be veg. If you decide to walk down the beautiful Rideau Canal (I recommend it!), after about 20-25 minutes, you can turn left on Clegg Street. From there, turn left on Main Street, and just a half a block down, you will find the Green Door–likely the oldest and best known vegetarian restaurant in the city. It’s pay-by-weight, which is nice because you can pick and choose your portions! Yum. Hope you have a great trip! :)
