7 months today.
Well I was planning on hosting a giveaway to celebrate surviving 6 months in Abu Dhabi… but well, 6 months sort of snuck up on me at a busy time. So 6+1 months it is!
I have been living in the United Arab Emirates for 7 months. In general, I like it. I’ve met people from all over the world, visited new places, tasted new foods, learned new words, and developed more patience and flexiblity than I ever dreamed possible. Regardless of my experience here [ups and downs], I know that overall I’m shaping a new weltanschauung. That’s exciting.
So to celebrate… One lucky winner will receive my all time favorite UAE novelty snack: Square Crisps!
I absolutely love this novelty snack and my mom will vouch for me. The crisps come in a variety of flavors including ready salted, curry, and salt ‘n’ vinegar to name a few. I think the cashiers at the gas station near my school and the market near my apartment probably know exactly what I’ll buy when I walk in the door. But really, they’re good!

[square] The longest length of time I’ve spent away from home would have to be summer camp in 8th grade. My brother and I were sent to this Christian-based sleepaway camp for like 3 weeks. During which we zip lined, swam, rode horses, learned to fence, and made lots of arts and crafts. As an adult, last year’s trip to California/England/France wins at almost 3 weeks.
i do not want square crisps and i don’t want you to spend money to send me square crisps, but i feel like i was away from home for 8 months with my old traveling job
Hi Jill – congratulations on 7 months already! The longest [square] time I’ve spent away from home is about 5 weeks in Hermosillo!
I can vouch for the deliciousness of the potato [squares]! The longest I’ve been away from home is my 17 day trip to Abu Dhabi. I’m sure to Jill it felt even longer.
To date my longest trip away from the Northwest was the 14 day trip to Florida in 9th grade. There in Florida i experienced what it feels like to ride around in a crowded convertible Chrysler Sebring, get 2nd degree burns under the hot Florida sun with sun tan lotion applied (Irishness and sun do not mix well), experience sushi for the first time, and ride my first roller coaster. I felt like a total [square] on the “It’s a small world” ride.

We were gone during your contest, but just wanted to add my info to your question. The longest I have ever been away from home (on vacation) was three weeks when Jim and I got marred. We visited Seaside, OR, Houston and Galveston, TX and Aruba. Also, I lived in Livermore, CA for 2 1/2 years, if that counts. :0) Toni
