Oh, hello…

On life support.

An afternoon walk to the “Field of Joy” in our town.

Every so often I think to myself, “I should really pay more attention to my blog.” And then at other times, I think “My blog’s pretty much dead. Maybe I should just let it die.” Yet, neither of those scenarios seem right. I definitely pulled back from blogging when I moved to Morocco. I can’t believe that was over two years ago! At that time, I was just so busy and so emotionally drained that blogging didn’t hold much of an appeal.

Unfortunately, even though my life now is much less stressful, the appeal of blogging never really returned. I’m not in love with my site layout and I’ve never enjoyed posting via WordPress. I read other blogs less frequently than before and roll my eyes at some of the travel writing that’s being published lately.

However, I do still view my blog as a place to set aside travel photos and memories for safe-keeping. My goal is to every so often catalogue a new trip or experience. Hopefully, I’ll feel motivated enough in the next few weeks to post more about my life here in Korea as well as a trip to Japan I took this past July.

So if you’ve wondered at all if this little blog is dead, the answer is “sorta kinda.”

I’m home.

My dear PNW.

My mom’s front porch.

I’ve been home now for a few days and it certainly feels good. I must say, there’s not the same wow factor as there used to be (coming home from the desert is totally different than coming home from Australia), but there’s no place like home.

So far I’ve been spending time with loved ones and kitties, scheduling appointments and running errands, and trying not to overshop. Everything seems so cheap in comparison. I definitely got overly excited when I saw mangoes for sale at .58 each! I think there will be quite a few of them in my future (.88 avocados too!).

Happy Canada Day!

With glowing hearts.

I helped Mike celebrate by making Canadian pancakes for breakfast. I whipped up a CN Tower, a Timmy’s cup, and a bit of hockey gear. The rest of the day was spent doing practical we’re-leaving-tomorrow stuff…but after dark all the housies went out for a sparkler session.

Happy Canada Day!
(And our last night in Australia)

Let’s not lose touch.

I’d miss you

Anyone else sad about the demise of Google Reader? July 1st is coming fast. Only a few weeks ago I was still adding new blogs… now that’s some serious denial! I had a difficult time deciding on which alternative to use, but after asking around I think I’m a fan of Feedly. I’m still not quite used to it… but I think eventually it will prove itself to be the superior choice. If you think you’d like to switch to Feedly too, it’s super easy to import your blog list from Google Reader.

Blog Lovin’ is another option that some people really like. You can follow me via Blog Lovin’ by clicking right here.

Whichever new RSS feed you chose, let’s not lose touch!

The view from here.

“I seen a rainbow yesterday…”

A few days ago, I was sitting on my bed when I looked out the window at just the right moment. I grabbed my camera and then rushed downstairs to tell Mike and our roommate to look outside. We headed out the back gate (no shoes despite the wet ground) and joined the other onlookers.

From the balcony

From the street

It doesn’t come across in the photos, but the top of the rainbow was incredibly wide. At least the widest I’d ever seen. That added to the faint more dispersed rainbow nearby, and the colors reflecting in the rock pools made for one incredible view.

And speaking of views… there’s a new look going on over here. It was a quick process taking about oh six months! That’s what happens when you hate what you got but don’t know what you want. Thank you to my talented friend Julia for designing my new header, favicon, and social media icons. I’ve also freshened up my “Places” page so maybe take a little peek at that. There are a couple of tiny things I’d still like to change so anyone who has some CSS skills and wants to work out a trade*, let me know.

Since I was already making changes I decided to take this opportunity to abandon Blogger in favor of WordPress. That was a bit of a process and there may be a few kinks here and there to work out. For example, you might not even be able to see the changes yet! It should all be coming together over the next few days but if you find a broken link or something, please let me know. I highly recommend using Sharon Hujik’s easy to follow ebook for anyone who might be making the switch.

To finish, here’s my favorite Newcastle view.

Just for good measure.

*I can make some stuff.

Hey camels, here I come!

Flying out.

I did not expect this to happen so soon (or ever!)… but life and friendship are taking me…

back to Abu Dhabi!

It will be a quick visit to attend a very special wedding, plus a side trip to Singapore on the way. I’m looking forward to getting my hands on some wedding crafts and celebrating with the happy couple. There might be a few favorite snacks I’d like to get a taste of too!

PS I scheduled a few posts for while I’m gone. See you next week!
